Strong laser fields can lead to emission of one or two electrons from atoms. These are fundamental processes in intense laser-matter interaction and have been continuously deepening our understanding of strong-field physics. My talk comprises two parts: (i) single ionization of magnesium by intense mid-infrared laser pulses. We theoretically study the above-threshold ionization process and find that the formation of low-energy structures in the photoelectron spectrum is enhanced. We show that this phenomenon is due to the laser-induced polarization effect and further demonstrate this effect could be experimentally detectable; (ii) double ionization of neon by intense elliptically polarized laser pulses. We experimentally examine the correlated electron and doubly charged ion momentum spectra using a cold target recoil ion momentum spectroscopy reaction microscope. An ellipticity-dependent asymmetry of correlated electron and ion momentum distributions has been observed.  Employing a 3D semiclassical model, we show that our observations reflect the subcycle dynamics of recollision process.
