Confined Ensembles of Highly Charged Ions for Studies of Light–Matter Interaction at High Intensities: The HILITE Penning Trap Setup
The HILITE (High-Intensity Laser-Ion Trap Experiment) Penning trap setup has been designed and built to investigate laser–ion interactions at high intensities. It combines the possibility of production, storage, detection and preparation of a pure ion ensemble for laser irradiation. The presentation will cover the experimental setup of HILITE, results obtained during the commissioning phase at GSI, as well as the first beam time performed at the FLASH laser facility at DESY.
