Dr. Christoph Heyl is awarded CZS Wild Card Grant

Dr. Christoph Heyl from DESY and the Helmholtz Institute Jena has been awarded a Wild Card Grant by the Carl Zeiss Foundation. The foundation thus promotes unconventional, interdisciplinary research from the STEM field. The SOPHIMA project, led by Dr. Heyl, aims to use ultrasonic waves in gases to manipulate light without contact or loss. This is intended to circumvent the significant limitations of wavelength and power of light that occur when using conventional optical elements such as mirrors and lenses.
