Woche der Teilchenwelt

Title
Woche der Teilchenwelt
Description

As a new member of “Netzwerk Teilchenwelt” the Helmholtz Institute Jena also participates in the week of particle physics „Woche der Teilchenwelt". From November 6th through 12th, throughout Germany a broad program for the interested public will be presented. Among other things, HI-Jena offers a hybrid lecture on “X-ray astrophysics in the laboratory”. The current calendar and latest news can be found on https://www.wochederteilchenwelt.de/events/.

HI-Jena will offer a hybrid lecture on “X-ray astrophysics in the laboratory” (Dr. Sonja Bernitt):
Many extremely hot objects exist in space, such as stellar atmospheres or the accretion disks around sharp holes. These emit X-rays, which are observed with the help of instruments on board satellite observatories. To learn new things about the observed objects from these observations, one needs precise knowledge of the physics on atomic and subatomic scales, which must be obtained through experiments in the laboratory. This involves the use of ion traps, storage rings, semiconductor detectors, X-ray sources, and many other experimental techniques.

This talk will be hosted on 10 November 2023 at 5:00 p.m. in the seminar room of the institute's building at Fraunhoferstr. 8.

You can also watch the talk as a live webinar at https://uni-jena-de.zoom-x.de/j/69223586243 (password roentgen). During registration, an email address will be required for technical reasons, and will not be validated, stored or otherwise used by us.

There will also be an information stand on the Jena site (Helmholtz Institute Jena) for interested members of the public:
Tue, 07.11. | 3-5 p.m.
Thu, 09.11. | 14-16 h
Fri, 10.11. | 3-5 p.m.
